The most popular Mercedes-Benz saloon has been reinvented with a new generation. More intelligent, stylish and efficient than ever, the new C-Class Saloon and Estate combine a bold ergonomic cabin with a dynamic exterior design. The new model is electrified with every engine receiving mild hybrid assistance – a plug-in hybrid will be following soon.
The new model looks like it’s in motion even when parked. Striking proportions with a strong, long bonnet makes the car look as if it is always ready to go. Additional character lines have been reduced so the ones that are there matter – the strong shoulder line running from front to rear is sure to catch your eye and show off the gently flared rear wheelarches. The saloon has almost coupe-like features with its short rear deck and curved roofline; the estate also features a gently sloping roofline and forward-canted rear window which adds an athletic appearance without functional compromise.
Every new C-Class comes equipped with LED High Performance headlights which present a distinctive running light signature during the day and maximum illumination when driving at night. Optionally available is DIGITAL LIGHT – an innovation from the new S-Class which takes adaptive lighting technology to the next level. Light from the LED lights is refracted and directed by 1.3 million micro mirrors in each headlamp cluster. DIGITAL LIGHT delivers up to 600 m high beam range. You could illuminate the length of a quarter mile drag strip from 200 m away with these headlights. DIGITAL LIGHT provides fully adaptive main beams which can automatically dim when the car detects traffic, pedestrians and traffic signs.
It’s all change for the interior with a new 11.9” portrait central infotainment display which now runs the second generation of our most intuitive and intelligent system ever – MBUX. The screen sits lower in the cabin than before – which is great for ergonomics and is easily operated by the touch screen itself, touch sensitive spokes on the new generation steering wheel or by using your voice. Just say “Hey Mercedes” and the system will help you.
The screen and dashboard are angled towards the driver creating a very focused, driver oriented cabin. Above the central display, the reshaped dashboard features a 12.3” instrument cluster display and eye-catching air vents which look like jet engine exhausts. With the brand new seat design and high levels of technology and comfort within the cabin, the C-Class will continue to be a fantastic place to relax whilst soaking up the miles.
Under the bonnet is a mixture of petrol and diesel engines all benefiting from mild hybrid assistance to get high performance and economy figures. All engine options are paired up to the silky smooth 9-speed automatic transmission.
A plug-in hybrid will join the range soon with a large lithium-ion battery and a flat load surface. Currently, it is projected to have an electric driving range of around 60 miles on a full charge - we will confirm this when the model is homologated.
