The EQS SUV: Redefined SUV Luxury

A new era for SUVs: the electric luxury era. Following on from the launch of the EQS and EQE saloons, the new EQS SUV arrives as the first SUV from Mercedes-EQ to sit on the bespoke EVA2 platform for electric cars. Designed from the ground up to be an electric car, the EQS SUV boasts a long wheelbase that allows for substantial space in the passenger cabin and large high-voltage battery to be worked into the car.

The design blends elements from two schools of thought and combines rugged and powerful styling features for a typical SUV presence with intelligent and aerodynamically optimised components to improve on-road performance and driving range. The EQ-range specific Black Panel grille returns and is flanked by the twin headlight clusters which are connected by a full-width light bar when equipped with DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps.

The EQS SUV makes no attempt to hide its size when viewed from the side; a long, flat roofline combined with tall side panels and large diameter alloy wheels ensure that the presence of the model cannot go unnoticed.

Between the wheels is the 107.8 kWh capacity battery that offers a driving range of up to 380* miles. This high-voltage battery sends power to an electric motor on each axle providing effortless performance and all-season traction thanks to 4MATIC all-wheel drive. In the EQS 450 4MATIC, 360 hp and 800 nm are available whilst the EQS 580 4MATIC delivers 544 hp and 858 nm.

The battery takes just 31 minutes to recharge from 10-80% using a 200 kW DC rapid charger on the public network; a full charge at home on a 7kW wallbox is completed in 15 hours. Above the battery is what makes the new EQS SUV stand out in the market: a first-class cabin with up to seven seats.

Supreme comfort is assured on every seat with heated front memory seats and electrically adjustable second row seating as standard. Luxury head restraints feature pillows attached to the headrest. Trust us, it is one of the simplest but most effective luxury items that you will ever experience in a car.

With three rows of seating, the EQS SUV can be as flexible as your needs. Whether that involves filling the car with passengers or many things to take to the tip and throw away, the EQS SUV can transform in a matter of seconds from a luxury tourer to the most luxurious van on the road.

If the rear of the cabin is all about space to relax, the front row is a place to interact. The newest generation of Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment can be displayed on two screens - one in front of the driver and a large portrait media display in the centre of the cabin, or, with the optionally available MBUX HYPERSCREEN. This combines three large digital displays under one curved pane of glass that stretches across the entire width of the cabin.

The "zero-layer" operating philosophy means that the system will show you what is most relevant to you when it is most relevant to you. Do you take a frequent route or visit the same charging station often? EQS SUV will suggest routes and charging stops that suit your routine. Through the EQ-optimised navigation, you are able to see charging stations nearby, along your route or near your destination and can show the cost per kWh, cost per full charge, maximum output and availability of connected chargers on the public network.

The new EQS SUV is set to redefine its segment for the electric age with a blend of luxury and intelligence. If the EQS limousine is anything to go by, we know that the digital and physical attention to detail will be absolutely fanatical.

The EQS SUV will go on sale later this year with the first models reaching our shores in the following months. There will be more to come from this new model including a Mercedes-Maybach version. Watch this space.
