Distinctive design, effortless flexibility. The fifth member of the Mercedes-EQ family has been revealed to the world. Say hello to the new EQB. Our second compact-based member of the EQ range, the new EQB is the first fully electric 7-seater that we will bring to market, arriving in early 2022.
Based on the GLB compact SUV, the EQB retains the distinctive, unique character of one of our favourite SUVs. Tall, steeply raked glass surfaces along with bold, boxy proportions make this model something that is guaranteed to draw eyes.
On the nose, the black panel radiator grille houses the three pointed star, sitting underneath one of the car’s two full-width light bars. The front end design has been aerodynamically optimised in order to improve efficiency and therefore driving range. All four corners receive aerodynamically optimised wheels which help to reduce turbulence as they turn. The number plate is located on the bumper and is flanked by diffuser strakes, again helping to improve airflow underneath the car.
Below the floor sits the high capacity battery. Encased in a protective casing, the battery is a key structural component of the new EQB. As with any model carrying the three-pointed star, it must meet and exceed the highest safety standards.
Battery capacities will start at 66.5 kWh, with a longer range variant planned. The model launches with a pair of twin-motor 4MATIC all-wheel drive models as the EQB 300 and EQB 350. A front wheel drive variant will follow in the coming months.
Above the battery is the spacious cabin. Three rows of seats offer almost unlimited flexibility whether the car needs to be fully loaded with items or luggage. EQB will offer four ISOFIX anchor points for child seats with the third row suitable for occupants up to 165 cm or 5’5” tall.
Navigation with Electric Intelligence takes the stress out of route planning. The EQB will automatically plan in charging stops if required; if your route is longer than your range, EQB will direct you to the fastest charging stations available. To top up the batteries from 10-80% will take as little as 30 minutes on a DC rapid charger.
EQB promises to bring distinctive style and huge practicality to the compact class when it arrives on our roads in early 2022. On the road prices start from £52,145 for the EQB 300 4MATIC and £53,645 for the EQB 350 4MATIC. All models are AMG Line and 7-seaters as standard.
Standard equipment includes: LED High-performance headlights with Adaptive Highbeam Assist, 18-inch AMG alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors with a reversing camera, heated front seats with four-way lumbar support, MBUX widescreen cockpit with two 10.25-inch displays, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 64-colour ambient lighting.
AMG Line Premium adds 19-inch AMG Y-spoke wheels, keyless entry, the panoramic glass sunroof, wireless charging and the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Sound System.
The Driving Assistance Package is available for all models.
