70 customers took part in this year’s highly enjoyable Mercedes-Benz Hertfordshire qualifying event at Brockett Hall, which was a hard-fought day. Sadly, only three winners, from 3 handicap groups, could advance to the Mercedes Trophy Regional Final.
The weather certainly turned out for the event with scorching heat for the entirety. However, this led to challenging conditions and the course gave up nothing to anything but exceptional golf on the day.
Despite this, we had some great scores, the overall winner with a score of 33 was Dave Ramasawmy of Essendon Golf Club. The runner-up spot was taken by James Malin of Woolston Manor and five-handicapper, Michael Slattery (Letchworth), took third place.
Amongst the other highlights at Brocket Hall was Ian Foster (Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club) winning the nearest-the-pin competition and Marcus Stapleton (Regents Park) claiming the prize for the longest drive. Trick shot performer Kevin Carpenter also kept players & staff thoroughly entertained and captivated during an incredible display of his talents, which really do have to be seen to be believed. Those customers that were invited to attempt some of the tricks can lay testament to how easy Kevin makes it look!
Attention then turned to the Mercedes Trophy regional final at St. George’s Hill Golf Club in Surrey on Friday 28th July, where the Mercedes-Benz Hertfordshire team consisting of James Malin (1-10 handicap group), Mark Bretton (11-19 handicap group) and Dave Ramasawmy (20+ handicap group) took on golfers representing 17 other retailers from around the country.
Our team did us proud, winning the day (with a total of 76 points) and qualifying for the Mercedes Trophy National Final.
Due to a sudden storm, with thunder and lightning thrown in, play was abandoned and the competition was only based on 16 holes rather than 18.
Having qualified for the National Final, the Mercedes-Benz Hertfordshire team, James, Mark and Dave will be heading to the home of golf – St Andrews in Scotland. This much sought-after prize includes three nights at the famous Old Course Hotel between the 15th and 18th of October, two rounds of competitive golf on both the iconic Old Course and Castle Course, a glittering awards ceremony at Glamis Castle and Mercedes-Benz VIP chauffeured transport and hospitality throughout the stay.
We wish them the best of luck in Scotland as they will be fighting for the chance to represent the UK in the Mercedes Trophy World Final which takes place in Stuttgart!
